Arianna Jackson – Class of ’09

UA Class of 2009
College: The Ohio State University (2009-2013)
Degree: B.S. Dental Hygiene
Advanced Degree: Doctor of Dental Surgery, UMKC (2013 -2017)

I attended The Ohio State University and earned a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene. Currently, I work as a dental hygienist in the Kansas City area. I enjoy my career in the dental field, working with people and educating them on the importance of oral hygiene and oral health. I’ve known for many years I wanted to pursue a career in dentistry. I owe it to my upper school counselor, Ms. Wilson, for listening to my ambitions and finding a program that matched my interest. Through that program I fell in love with dentistry.

Toward the end of my dental hygiene program, I decided I didn’t want to stop my education there; I wanted to further my education in dental school. My original goal going into college was to become a dentist, so I owed it to myself to at least try – and I’m so glad I did. For the past two years, I’ve
been taking undergraduate prerequisite courses. Although it wasn’t ideal to be a full-time student instead of a full-time hygienist, I wouldn’t change a single decision. I’ve been accepted into dental school and will be starting my coursework this fall. I’m looking forward to expanding my knowledge and clinical skills to become a better healthcare provider for my patients. In my journey, I’ve learned to never let the fear of rejection or extra work keep me from my goals.

Update: Since submitting her spotlight, Arianna earned her DDS in a White Coat ceremony that took place in 2017. She now works for as a General Dentist at a private practice in the KC area.
