Mahlet ’19 is spending her senior year at Stanford traveling and studying abroad as much as possible. She completed a 3-week course in Ghana, traveled to Kenya for leisure, and now she is studying abroad in Cape Town, South Africa. She will end 2022 visiting Ethiopia where her family is from. Here she is in South Africa.

Sydney (UA ’18) achieved her goal of landing a full-time job at an engineering firm after earning her degree. She has started her career as a Structural Payloads Engineer at one of the world’s top aerospace companies… Boeing! Way to go, Sydney!

Junathian (UA 2017), a business major at UMKC, had a Personal Finance Solutions internship at American Century and discovered he loves finance and American Century loved him! They asked him to come back next summer.

Paulina (UA 2020), a business administration major at UMKC, had a Commercial Payments internship at Commerce Bank which turned into a part-time job during the upcoming school year and another internship next summer!

MyAun (UA 2020), a Strategic Communications major at Evangel University, had a Commercial Internal Communications internship at Commerce Bank and was invited back for another internship at Commerce Bank next summer. At Commerce, MyAun learned the power of networking after meeting with different executives.

Kiara (UA 2017), a theater and communications major at Austin College in Texas, had a Marketing internship at Essence of Australia, a leading bridal company headquartered in Kansas City. Kiara learned she really enjoys marketing!

Diamond (UA ’18) graduated in the spring of 2022 from MU with a degree in Education. After years of hard work and dreaming of being a teacher, Diamond is now a 3rd grade ELA & Social Studies teacher at Hale Cook Elementary in KC. Way to go, Diamond!
New Jobs & Notable Accomplishments
Chalise (UA ’17) founded Timeless Home Interiors, a residential interior design firm in 2020, and it is already an award winning business! She started with small with projects around her parents’ home and eventually took initiative and found resources to teach herself the business.
Congratulations to Imani (UA’13) on her new job as a Restorative Justice Coordinator with Kansas City Public Schools!
Recent Graduates
Daija (UA’20) graduated from the Me2You Phlebotomy Academy and landing a job as an Environmental Technician at Truman Medical Center. Way to go, Daija!
Congratulations to Mariah (UA’18) for graduating Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology (premed) from Xavier University of Louisiana. She’s now working as a Patient Transporter at KU Medical and taking classes at Penn Valley to become an EMT.
DaVon (UA’18) recently graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and a minor in Mathematics from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. DaVon will be working at Cerner in the fall.
Congratulations to Aniah (UA’19), who recently graduated from the University of Missouri – Kansas City and is now working as a Teaching Assistant at UA!
Safiya, (UA’18) graduated with her Bachelor of Business Administration from Loyola University in New Orleans in May. She is now working at Yelp as an Associate Account Executive.
Congratulations to Danisha (UA’14), who graduated with her Master in Higher Education from UMKC last May. She has accepted a position with BT Global in Dallas in their Marketing and Sales department.
Britt (UA ’09) earned her master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Avila University this spring. Britt will be working as a full-time job counselor with Youth Mental Health Services.
Congrats to Shawndrea (UA ’15) for graduating with her Master in Occupational Therapy from Mizzou this spring.
2022 Summer Interns
Jamesha (UA 2020), an interior design major at Pittsburgh State, had the opportunity to participate in an interior Design internship at BNIM. Over the summer Jamesha learned how to use Adobe InDesign and Revit (building design software), how to update websites, and was able to help chose sustainable materials and finishes for interior spaces.
Tessa (UA 2017), an Engineering major at UMKC, had an amazing Transportation internship at KCATA/RIDE KC where where she learned about the FTA, AD paratransit eligibility, how drivers are trained and held accountable for accidents and how to compute deviations for timebands.
Tyoni (UA 2020), a communication and journalism major at K-State, worked at Helzberg Diamonds this summer as an E-Commerce intern where she learned SKUS, how to navigate company platforms, and how to contact and network with other companies. She also had the opportunity to help plan their annual Helzberg Helps community service event.
Vichelle (UA 2019) a biology major at Fisk University, had a Community Health internship at Swope Health Services. While there, among other things she learned more about Swope’s outreach and intake process as well as techniques and methods for working with mentally ill patients.
Chadsity (UA 2020), a business major at MCC, worked at Helzberg Diamonds this summer in a Human Resources internship. Chadsity helped screen applicants, participate in interviews, learned the differences between a good and poor resume, and that asking questions is important.
