Upper School Study Abroad Program

The Benefits of Summer Programs

Aside from being incredibly fun, study abroad and NOLS (National Outdoor Leadership School) programs better prepare students for college and life success. Alumni participants in this program have also earned more in college scholarships, shown higher college acceptance rates, and have a higher college graduation rate compared to fellow alumni who haven’t participated.

Scholarships Available to UA Upper School Students

UA Foundation offers full scholarships (valued up to $10,500) for UA 10th-11th graders to attend high school study abroad programs for 3 to 5 weeks in another country in the summer, or 4-week leadership courses in the wilderness of Alaska or Wyoming in the United States. Participants build confidence, independence, college readiness, and respect for other cultures and/or the wilderness, all while having an amazing time and making new friends from all over the globe.

Travel Experiences

University Academy Foundation provides scholarships to University Academy Sophomores and Juniors who participate in summer travel experiences through our exceptional program partners. At the end of each summer we collect these stories and publish a journal for our travelers, their families, and the generous donors that make these life-changing adventures possible.

Read about the experiences and challenges from past study abroad participants:

The Experiment in Internail Living Advertisment

The Experiment in International Living

(lovingly referred to as EIL) has empowered young people for over 90 years to experience the world, and develop the skills they need to be global citizens.

The Experiment’s educational approach is immersive, experiential, and student-centered. They believe in fostering young people’s natural curiosity and sense of adventure and preparing them to explore, value, and understand different perspectives. The EIL learning model is a rich process through which knowledge is cultivated not simply from experiences but also by reflecting on those experiences and extracting lessons learned. The Experiment’s group leaders are trained to facilitate this reflective learning process throughout our programs.

NOLS

NOLS is a nonprofit global wilderness school. Set in beautiful remove wilderness areas, NOLS training helps students discover their full potential.

A NOLS course is an immersive expedition where you will spend time exploring remove, wild places with a tight-knit community of students and instructors. Find adventure and perspective. Develop lifelong leadership skill as you dive into our time-tested curriculum. Build courage and competence under the guidance of the best instructors in the industry.
