UA Class of 2014
Baker University Class of 2018 (BS in Sociology and International Studies)
Alumni Success Fellow – UA Foundation

University Academy provided me with a solid educational background. Throughout my nine years of attending this school, I was blessed to have amazing instructors who pushed me and wanted the best for me. I was given the amazing opportunity to attend National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) and spend a summer in Germany. Friends of University Academy also gave me the opportunity to intern with the Kansas City Crime Commission. Lessons learned from these experiences helped me find success in college.

I went on to attend Baker University in Baldwin City, KS. Choosing Baker University was the absolute best decision for me. I was able to connect and bond with professors who truly inspired me, and showed time and again that they cared about my success post-college. This commitment to my educational success lead me to a Bachelors of Science in Sociology and International Studies. I was able to graduate Summa Cum Laude and in the top 10% of my graduating class.

I am currently in the beginning of a service year in Austin, TX. I work with at risk K-2nd grade students, helping them improve their literacy skills. I will use this year of service as a gap year. I would like to go to graduate school and get a MSW. I want to work in the non-profit world, and be able to help children from communities similar to what I grew up in.

Throughout my life I have been awarded immense opportunity, that has helped me get to where I am today. My goal is to find a career path that allows me to help others. I want to show young people from inner city Kansas City that with hard work and dedication comes great things. We just have to make the decision to work hard and persevere.

Update on July 31, 2020: Danisha has since become an Alumni Success Fellow at University Academy Foundation.
