Kayla is winning so many local awards, we’re starting to lose count. As a teacher of American HIstory and AVID (Achievement via Individual Determination) at Lincoln Middle School, Kayla works to instill confidence in her students and shows her dedication to them every day.
Aside from teaching, as if her resume isn’t impressive enough, Kyla also formed Queen Vibes, KC which is known as “A wellness movement inspired by black girl magic.” Kyla says: “At Queen Vibes KC, we believe that access to wellness opportunities should be equitable. Research has proven that black women face more barriers to physical activity than any other demographic. We decided we wanted to help break down some of those barriers by creating community-centered fitness events.”
In 2022, Kyla, as a KC Teacher of the Year, was recognized as the first-ever honoree of the Norma Hunt Super Bowl Champion of Education program. For her dedication to students, she was also awarded with tickets to Super Bowl LVIII.
