Shawndrea Magee visited UA at the end of the 2023-2024 school year to talk about her career and educational experiences with the junior class and to share a very special gift with the second graders. In addition to being a successful Occupational Therapist, Shawndrea is a published childrens’ book author. She read her book, Raina’s Rainbow Lemonade, with all of the second graders, and UA Foundation was able to give each student a book to take home. We interviewed her about her time at UA, her future plans, and what she loves about her career.
What do you value about your time at UA?
UA provided so many life experiences that I didn’t fully appreciate until I wasn’t at UA anymore. I was able to travel to 5 different states, compete in debate tournaments all across the Midwest, and take a semester’s worth of college credit with me to Mizzou.
Tell us about your career.
I currently work as a pediatric occupational therapist. I work within home health, so I visit my kiddos in their homes all across Denver and Aurora. I have about 25 different families. I enjoy the challenges and the creativity that goes into this role.
What are your future plans for writing and your career?
More books! So many more books. I am currently working on starting a new small publishing company called Mending Trees Publishing. My god-mom and I are collaborating on a book we hope to release by next summer. I’d like to release at least 10 more books in my lifetime. I also want to help fellow self-published authors on their journeys.
How has UA and UA Foundation impacted your life?
UA and UA Foundation have provided me with a permanent network of supporters and mentors. UA alumni are so lucky to have an entire team of people who work together to ensure our long-term success.
“Thank you for all you do, donors! I sincerely appreciate the opportunities UA and UA Foundation have provided me.”
