After being a student-athlete for five years, I am pleased to say I have taken the opportunity to teach Character Ed at University Academy in the Lower School through the Kansas City Teacher Residency Program (KCTR). KCTR is a teacher residency program that helps individuals who want to transition from their current career into a teaching career. While attending the University of Wyoming, I served as the University’s Representative in the Mountain West Conference. It was a wonderful opportunity to network and be a voice for my university. I also participated in undergrad research in psychology, conducting a study that analyzed self-schemas. This granted me the opportunity to further the psychological research of my university, as well as the field of psychology. My life experiences along with my education are preparing me to help individuals and groups with mental health needs. My mind is set on a career in counseling because I want to give back to my community and help those in need. Counseling is a passion of mine, and my goal is to help young people build character and see that there is hope for our future. One of the requirements to become a counselor is having a teacher certification and I was fortunate enough to be accepted into KCTR and I plan to see this teaching opportunity as a stepping stone. Once completed, I will be a certified teacher and I will transition into counseling. I live by the motto, “Know who you are, but know who you can become.” I know who I am and I know I am becoming a person who helps change the world for the better.

Darrenn also serves as Assistant Football Coach at UA and was one of the first to be inducted in University Academy’s Gryphon Hall of Fame. The Gryphon Hall of Fame is an athletic honor for students who have graduated from UA, performed well on and off the field, played sports in college and have graduated from college. This is a way to honor distinguished athletes who have promoted school spirit and pride.
