D’Angela (Sims) Johnson – Class of 2009
College: Rockhurst University (2009-2013)
Degree: B. S. in Communication Sciences and Disorders
Graduate School: MA in Management and Project Management from Avila (2015)
I received my Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Rockhurst University in 2013, and I graduated this past December (2015) with a Master of Management and Project Management degree from Avila University. During college, I applied for an internship through the Career Acceleration Program offered through Friends of UA (UAF.) I was offered a position to intern at St. Luke’s Medical Center on the Plaza. The experience gave me in depth exposure and encouraged me to look for career opportunities within the field of healthcare. Today, I’m proud to say I recently accepted a job offer with *Cerner Corporation as an application services consultant.
In both my professional and personal career, I am committed to transforming communities into innovative environments by helping others gain access to the latest technology, technical education, and basic services and amenities. In the near future, I would like to have my own IT consulting firm.
I get really excited when I find out someone currently attends UA. I tell them high school was the best time of my life. I have so many memories and funny stories that I still tell today. Most importantly, I have maintained close relationships with some of my fellow Gryphons. Through the years, I have come to greatly value the relationship Friends of UA (UAF) has maintained with the alumni of University Academy. It is encouraging to know I have a support system that wants to see me strive for greatness, and is there during major milestones in my life.
*Update: Since submitting her spotlight, D’Angela has moved up to Team Lead – Solutions Architect at Cerner where she has been employed since 2015. She also served on the Board of Trustees at Rockhurst University from 2017-2020.
